Yellowstone Abstract - Turquoise

It’s almost unimaginable that life could exist in the super-heated and acidic waters found in the geysers, hot springs, pools and mud pots of Yellowstone. Yet, algae, cyanobacteria and other microorganisms flourish in the hostile conditions. Coupled with minerals, mineral oxides and other chemical & geologic wonders, the colors and patterns created look like abstract paintings.
As I walked the paths along the Upper Geyser Basin, taking photos of all the “paintings” before me, an elderly Japanese couple (who spoke broken English) stopped at my side and began taking photos along with me. From what I could understand he was an artist, a painter, who was also in awe of the abstracts before us. We walked from one area to the next, composing our shots, happy to appreciate what Mother Nature had offered us. Another magical moment!
