Fissure in the Ripples of Time
The forces of nature have carved the soft, red sandstone of the Colorado Plateau into stunning shapes and curves. The resulting slot canyons vary in size from large, cavernous rooms to narrow passageways just barely wide enough to hike through.
The curves, striations of the sandstone and the orange/red colors provide for fantastic photo opportunities.
This particular image was made in Rattlesnake Canyon found on the Navajo Nation. A narrow slot canyon that is difficult to navigate, it provides an entirely different view of the area. What caught my eye was this large fracture in the sandstone, possibly created by a shift in the large mass of rock. I chose to craft this image in black & white because of the distinct and beautiful contrasts of the curves and striations.
