Spring arrived early this year. Following a mild winter in Columbus, temperatures in March and April soared into the 70’s and 80’s, more typical for mid-May than late winter. As a result, Mother Nature was confused. Flowers bloomed 5-6 weeks ahead of schedule, fruit trees exploded with their fruit-generating blossoms and birds started their mating dances ahead of schedule.

The tulips at Franklin Park Conservatory were in full color when I stopped in one early evening. One particular patch caught my eye. The yellows, reds and pinks of the blooms coupled with the dark, green leaves provided for a beautiful composition. I was in my abstract phase again, so I thought I’d infuse the image with some camera movement. The result: an impressionistic image with painterly textures.
