When I am in Hocking County I feel as if I am in another part of the country – the forests of Oregon or Washington, not in southern Ohio. In the Ice Age, glacial forces ended just north of the area. As a result, the region is strewn with rocks, boulders, hemlocks and other vegetation not found in the flat lands of central and northern Ohio.

Heavy rains, a drop in temperature and a forecast for clear skies were the ingredients for potential fog the next morning. With that in mind I headed down to Old Man’s Cave in Hocking County. It turned out the conditions were ideal. As I headed down to the creek, the cool air created this wonderful mist and fog. Adding to the effect, sunlight pierced the thick air creating “God Beams” in the shadows of the trees. This image is inspirational and serene, creating a zen-like moment!
